Privacy Policy

Last updated: 31 July 2026

Tin & Tell (“we”, “us” or “our”) provides the Tin & Tell app and website. This policy explains what personal data we handle and why.

For privacy questions, requests or complaints, contact hello@tinandtell.com.

Information we handle

When you use Tin & Tell, we may handle:

  • An anonymous account identifier, plus your email address and name if you choose to create or connect an account.
  • Your collection, wishlist, favourites, ratings, tasting notes, product details, barcodes, dates and photographs you choose to save.
  • The display name, tasting details and up to four photographs you explicitly publish as an unlisted opening.
  • Label photographs submitted for identification.
  • Feedback, suggestions, links, screenshots or evidence photographs you choose to send.
  • Your email address if you join the website Android waitlist.
  • Basic technical information needed to operate and protect the service, such as network, device and app information.

How we use information

We use information to:

  • provide, save and synchronise your collection;
  • authenticate and secure accounts;
  • identify tins from their labels;
  • review feedback and improve Tin & Tell;
  • send Android availability updates you have requested;
  • prevent misuse and technical problems; and
  • meet legal obligations.

Your collection, notes and photographs are private by default. If you choose Publish & share, the confirmed display name and tasting fields shown in the summary become available to anyone with that unlisted link. Tin & Tell does not sell personal data, show third-party advertising or use advertising or analytics trackers.

We process information where necessary to provide Tin & Tell, where we have a legitimate interest in operating and protecting the service, where you have consented to Android availability emails, or where required by law.

Camera and voice features

Barcode scanning happens on your device.

When you choose label-photo recognition, the photograph is processed using Google’s Gemini service. Tin & Tell does not keep the photograph after returning the result.

Voice input is handled by your device’s speech-recognition service. Tin & Tell receives the resulting text rather than the audio.

Service providers

We use a small number of service providers:

  • Google and Firebase provide accounts, cloud storage and label recognition. Google Cloud also checks text and photographs that you choose to publish for safety categories.
  • Apple and Google may provide sign-in and device services you choose to use.
  • Formspree processes Android waitlist submissions.
  • Cloudflare hosts and protects the website.

These providers process information only as needed to supply their services and under their own contractual and legal data-protection obligations. Some processing may take place outside the United Kingdom using recognised safeguards.

Retention and deletion

Account, collection and photograph data is kept while your account exists or until you delete the relevant content.

You can delete your account and collection from the app’s Profile section. This removes the active account, collection, photographs and public openings. You can also revoke an individual opening from its tasting page. Limited copies may remain temporarily in service-provider backups.

Label photographs are not retained by Tin & Tell after recognition. Short-lived security and usage records are kept only as long as needed to protect the service.

Android waitlist details are kept until you unsubscribe or the Android availability updates are complete. Feedback and catalogue submissions are kept only while reasonably needed to review them, then deleted or anonymised. Non-personal catalogue facts may remain.

Information may be kept longer where necessary for security, disputes or legal obligations.

Your choices and rights

You can remove collection entries and photographs in the app, delete your account, and revoke camera, photo-library, microphone or speech-recognition access through your device settings. You can revoke a public opening without deleting the private tasting.

You may ask us to access, correct, delete, restrict or provide a copy of your personal data, or object to certain uses. You can withdraw from Android availability emails at any time.

Contact hello@tinandtell.com to exercise these rights or raise a complaint. We will acknowledge privacy complaints within 30 days and investigate them appropriately. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.

Children

Tin & Tell is a general-audience app and is not directed to children under 13. Please contact us if you believe a child under 13 has provided personal data.

Changes

We may update this policy when Tin & Tell changes. The current version and its updated date will always appear on this page.
